ESL Instruction - My school's in Atlanta!

The first time I came the U.S, I prefer to live in Atlanta, GA because I had my family here and I wanted to study in this state. Then my uncle took me go to find a school for international student. I d'like to study English first and will get in University after I get Toefl score. I found a school that was near by Georgia State University in downtown of Atlanta with the name ESL Instruction & Consulting. I came this school to take a test to get in. And I passed.

Remember the time when I had just gotten the school, I was like very nervous with my English. At that time, I just a seventeen girl who didn't know anything about American life and until now I have been like a youngest student in this school. I even couldn't talk to my friends, my classmates and couldn't understand what my teacher was saying in class. For me, at that time, they spoke English so fast and I just wanted to speak like them. My international friends talked to me that "Don't worry, Ivy. You will get it soon. When I got here, I also couldn't understand anything." Actually, I still worried for my English skills. My listening was so bad and my speaking sometimes was wrong. When I was in class, I tried to get my teacher's mean. The first session like the hardest one to train my English. My teachers was very nice to me and my friends was very friendly. The director always helps me when i need help and the student advisor is also with me if I get some problem in school. They supported me a lot and my studying was getting better day by day. I learned so much good things from them.

My schedule for the first sessions was on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and they took me whole day with three classes. There are many classes that are seperated follow the level. I was studying many interesting classes like American Literature, Phrasal Verbs, Creative Writing except the classes which are about four basical skills like Listening, Speaking, Grammar and Writing. Now i get one is Moden Writing, it is interesting for me as same as my classmates.

Besides, every single session, there is a field trip that go to some place to play for fun, for learning together for all of tachers and studens here. I did. All of the field trips that i got were very fun. One more thing, in the end of each session, also we have a International Food Party that we make or cook some native food. That is very nice too. Thanks for my school about these.

Keep studying on like this, until now I have been here at the sixth session. I improved my English skills little by little, they are so much better than the day i didn't get here yet. And I got some many friendship and few best friend here. I will never forget what i study from this school and what you guys support me in the time i study here as same as my living in Atlanta.

Poverty!

What do you do to keep living? Eating, learning, working and playing...don't you? But how can you survive without these activities? Absolutely it is impossible, however in some African countries, especially in Cameroon, some people stay alive without those. No money, no food, no drink... How about their results? They die because of hunger, thirst and getting disease.

The poor who have no choice to change because they don't have any energy to work to get money or to do something to get better. And the government isn't able to help all of them, the government even can't provide any food, drink and medicine for enough. That's bad. The goverment should support their citizen to improve their lives. Besides, i think that the goverment had better give the poor jobs that they can work and earn money from.

nThere are many kinds of natural calamity that may happen whenever in this Earth. Such as tornado, flood, cyclone, tsunomi, earthquake, etc which are from impact of nature. These cause death, injure and damage to people and properties all over the world.

Addiction

If I ask you why do you want to eat, I'm sure you are going to answer that because you are hungry or you have to eat to live. Exactly, it's absolutely that's true. For addiction, it's the same. You still wonder why some people are addicted to something like drugs or alcohol. Take a thought about the environment, society, living of each one of us. These make up our personality and these impact on the way that we live.

As you know, a large amount of people who are addicted to drugs or alcohol also have a bad living. It's possible for all kinds of people, even for millionairs, actors, actresses who are very rich or famous. It might be the same because all just get some trouble in their lives, their work, their being bad also. But that's one of the reasons which make them take drugs or alcohol and then some day, they are addicted on it.

However, at the present a dangerous part of addicted-alcohol people are teenagers who are easy to get addicted to drugs and alcohol. Why do they take drugs the most of all of addcited people? The first reason is because they are too young to know which ones bad and good for their lives, can't take care and control themselves. They don't think much about them being bad with drugs and alcohol. The second, they uasually are at parties or clubs for nights and then experiment with drug. And the third, some of them want to take drug because they are getting down something or are effected by their family or friends.

Do teenagers know how dangerous in addiction to drugs and alcohol? I'm a teenager too, but i know if i take drugs and addicted to it, i can lose my friends, my family, my everything i do well... and actually i will lose my life. So, if someone (especially teenagers) are addicted to drugs and alcohol, please stop right now and try to quit it to get your being good back. You surely will receive nice sights from society.

Polygamy: Why don't women speak up?

I wonder why how men think if polygamy will be for women, not only for men. This situation still happens in some countries , especially in Africa. It's their traditional culture, for every single man, from the president, the leader to the farmers...

I have known about the man who has 11 wives and 77 children. He said that :" I want to send my children to school but i have no money". Absolutely, he is not able to send his children to school. As you know, living nowadays is not cheap and living in Africa is very difficult. That's the poorest part of the world. They don't have good condition for service about education, medicine...

The biggest problem for polygamy in Africa is the lack of food and drink. Of course, they need more food and drink to service their living. Otherwise, the government can't help them.
"I feel like killing myself when i see my hungry children whom i cannot help" the men who has 11 wives and 77 children said.

In fact, nobody wants to share their spouse with others. So if one day, the rule will change , how will men think if the women also get married more than one husband. It's not fair for the female, isn't it? Hopefully, polygamy can be stopped in the present. No more poverty, no more hungry and no more get HIV/AIDS virus... The world will be so much better than now.

Street children : They need to be helped!

Where is the heaven for children in Vietnam when they have to work wanderingly every day just to get a very small amount of money. They are still the children who actually must be sent to school, who still don't know how life is and how to get money exactly. They are young so they have no voice to speak up their rights that they need to have.

A sight about their living, their working and their nothing... For me, it's not fair. They don't have to spend their whole day working for only about $ 1.50 or $ 2.00. One more thing, they don't have any their personal papers (what do social security service ???) so they can't have rights about Children protection, medicine or education.

What do they need to say now? Not only for them, but also for us - Vietnamese community specifically and International community in the world generally... must to get them out of this situation. In fact, there are also a lot of volunteer foreigners and Vietnamese locals who feel touched and open houses where they pick up street children to get them in to live and study there. I just want to say that give street children their rights which almost the children have. They are too young to work like that.

One more thing, I'm Vietnamese but i still wonder where Children's rights in Vietnam are. The Vietnamse government can't take care of Children well, I'm sure of that because i still see a lot of street children who are working as shoes shiners, newspaper sellers, lottery ticket sellers, etc... in Vietnam now.

Thus, this situation is discussed all the time in Vietnamese newspapers and also in foreign newspapers. Above is my opinion about this.
